Motherlove

Happy Mother’s Day to all of you beautiful mamas out there! And to my own mother, Marge, may she rest in peace, a few words of tribute:

My mother broadened our world by inviting people from all over the world into it. She opened our home to exchange students from China, South America, Sweden and elsewhere, and to many people in various sorts of trouble. Without talking about it, she gave me an example of openhearted, broadminded embrace.

I will always be grateful for the education my mother gave me. And, grateful, too, that she was a woman who didn’t presume to know how people should live or what they should think. She was strong. She spoke her mind. And she accepted people for who they were, unless they were hurting someone she loved, in which case she kind of pounced. 🙂

As is the case with many mothers and daughters, our relationship was often fraught, but around its edges, there was always a great respect. And, the story doesn’t end there. As is the case with all light and energy, it continues.

For those of you who are mothers, who’ve lost children, who have mothers and who have lost mothers — blessings and peace this day!
