Joy

My niece Ellen, age 15, is a gifted and gorgeous girl. As it turns out — though this comes as no surprise, really — she can act. Watching her in a skit recently made me so proud. In fact, all of them — Meaghan, Ben, Anne, Ellen, Carolyn, Eric, Celia and my daughter Caroline — are all gifted, lovely people. I feel blessed to be a part of their lives.

  1. Kate, this reminded me of how blown away I was when my then-8th-grader son acted in an elaborately staged school play. He not only blew me away with how good he was, but I was awed by how it seemed to almost instantly help him come out of his adolescent shell and seemingly become a whole new person, more confident, secure and outgoing. I had always heard and read about how the performing arts sometimes have that effect, but this time I understood it in a whole new way. So thanks for sharing that story about your niece.
